What is the Continental alliance for food security and sustainable development in the Americas? What are your objectives?
Led by IICA and supported by the Ministers of Agriculture of the Americas at the Inter-American Board of Agriculture (IABA) 2023, the Continental Alliance is a set of collective actions between countries to build shared solutions to common problems, strengthening the agri-food systems of the Americas and their contributions to food security and sustainable development.

The Alliance continues the process of consensus and regional positioning on agri-food systems on the global agenda, conveying that they are not failed, they can be strengthened and are part of the solution to global challenges. In the transformations to be implemented, farmers are central actors; as well as science and technology, which are the transformative instruments of our time.

The central objective of the Alliance's work plan during 2024 is to consolidate the functioning of the collective action mechanisms, through strengthening work with countries and strategic partners. For this, below are the roadmaps for 2024 for each of the Alliance's strategic areas.

OPSAA
The Observatory of Public Policies for Agri-Food Systems in the Americas contributes to strengthening capacities to change the way policies are designed in the Americas, by providing a space for reflection, analysis of policies and their national and international contexts, and the exchange of good practices, perspectives and visions of the future. With this tool, IICA seeks to support the decision-making of policymakers and foster alliances and greater cooperation and exchange of experiences between actors and countries in the region.
OPSAA
The School of Leaders for the Transformation of the Agri-Food Systems of the Americas seeks to contribute to the training of capacities and leadership of public and private actors (technicians, officials and decision makers) to promote the transformation of the agri-food systems of the Americas.
